It seems that every famous game franchise sooner or later gets a CCG spin, and the trend is growing. On the other hand, the genre is very actionable and open to new interpretations, so there are always new ideas that can be introduced to keep fans engaged. Unfortunately, not all developers try to come up with new mechanics, so people today are quite skeptical about CCG.
Five decks and many toys to choose from Gaunt:
The Witcher Card Game CD Project is an attempt to expand the rich universe and give fans a different spin on the story, while also trying not to make things too mute. So, it looks and smells like a classic CCG already, but the gameplay is unique, and it involves a lot of strategy in each match. In fact, the mechanics are complex enough to play the game at a pro-level.
There are five factions to choose from, including Skytail, Scalable, and the Nilgardine Empire, each featuring unique cards with special abilities. Each match is usually spread over several rounds, and to win it is not necessary to win them all. In fact, sometimes it is wise to lose a round to win the upper hand and win the match.
Three different lanes and card crafting
There are three lanes for each type of card, namely turmoil, range, and siege. The main goal is to reach the end of each round with more card points than your opponent, so it is not necessary to attack at all times unless you need to lower the opponent’s points while maintaining your defenses. ۔ If you are not happy with the people involved, you can create your own decks if you have enough resources.
Speaking of which, Gwent also has in-app purchases, but they don’t negatively affect the game, so you don’t have to worry about pay-for-win situations. Lastly, the artwork is as beautiful as you might expect from the creators of Witcher, especially since some cards are vibrant. Each unit is beautiful and fun to watch, and there are also original sound actors, which makes the game feel authentic.
Finally, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game has all the right elements to keep you engaged for a very long time, and it’s barely an open beta version. Therefore, the gameplay is complex and enjoyable, the cards come in large numbers, and the graphics are top-notch.
